Chapter Two Hundred Thirty

On an ordinary January day we had a surprise visitor.   I was in the library room showing my sisters the beautiful little matryoska doll we had received in the mail when Tasha became quite anxious and started barking.  She is usually a quiet little doggie but we knew something strange must be happening.

Ima reacted quickly upon hearing a strange noise and held Tasha in check.   At that point we didn't know any details so thought it best she not get involved.

Indeed it was a surprise! We could hear a reaction from Becassine.  The back door had opened and we had a visitor!

Several months ago a new family had moved into our neighborhood and they raise Dalmatian dogs.   Someone had probably left their gate open and one of the adult dogs decided to take a stroll.   Our door was ajar and the inside must have looked inviting.

Our visitor made himself quite comfortable under the table and all effort and coaxing by Michael and HittyPat to have him come out met with resistance.

Grandma Alice  came to the rescue! She has a pleasing way with animals and the visitor cooperated with her.   Grandma fashioned a leash out of a soft leather strap and gently tied it around the doggie's neck.   Hitty Colleen and Hitty Sue offered to escort our visitor back to his home.

Upon arriving at the neighbor's house, they saw the open gate.  It was very fortunate that only one dog had been outside at the time or the whole neighborhood may have had visitors.   The people were very grateful and thanked the Hittys most graciously.

A good deed for the day!
