Chapter Two Hundred Seventy Seven

This has been such a busy time, I hardly know where to begin.  Hitty Helen returned from her trip and the following week-end we got to spend some time at our vacation cabin.   We had not been there since winter.  It was quite pleasant to see it in warmer weather.

Esther had not wanted us to visit the cabin  until she finished our new wall hanging.   She wanted the cabin  to have a spring look to it and now it does indeed.

Hitty Colleen helped hang it as Ima and Hitty Helen made sure it was hanging straight.

When the hanging was completed they asked Grandma Alice and I to come see.   Grandma put down her knitting and I came in from outdoors to say the  proper oohs and ahhs.  Since the hanging has nine different birds in it, we had brought along all the books about birds that we had.  We couldn't find any that were exactly as in the hanging,  but then these birds were to be abstract or artist's rendering.

We also were excited to see what Grandma Alice had been knitting.   She had been a bit secretive about it but now thought it a good time to show us.  We are so pleased and I  just know there will be quite a fuss over which one of us gets to wear it.   I suppose we will have to take turns.

During our visit Michael discovered that the skis, snow shoes, sleds etc had all been replaced with fishing poles, sand buckets, and canoe paddles.   I can just imagine what  went through that little boy’s mind! These items should make for an interesting summer.

In the midst of all the goings on, Hitty Helen reminded us that Esther had made a little book about her trip. She showed us pictures of her visit to the Rose Cottage in the United Kingdom, scenes from the surroundings and then on to New Zealand.   She is pleased to be back home again but she says she keeps remembering the good times she had with all the new friends.  I am sure she plans to stay in touch with them.

Sadly our week-end came to a close and we headed for home but Esther assured us that when the summer truly gets underway, we will make more trips to our cabin.
